Exciting New Fragrances

Date added: 23/11/09

Very often when someone finds a fragrance they like, it becomes the only one they ever wear, synonymous with their presence and subtly part of their personality. This phenomenon can be one of the most wonderful aspects of fragrance but can also become a tiresome and overwhelming trait. Whether you are looking for your next long term favourite or a fragrance to break you from the bonds of a drawn out scent relationship take a look at some of our exciting new fragrances.

Lola by Marc Jacobs–  It would be no surprise to me if every reader of the efragrance blog had already purchased a bottle of Lola. Couple a fantastic fragrance with an incredible bottle and you’ve got yourself a winner. It’s Daisy for an older demographic, mature, sexy and sophisticated. But I have to admit my favourite aspect of Lola is the lid. Too often fragrances are garnished with a piece of cheap plastic much to the detriment of their image and perceived value. Marc Jacobs, however has created a small piece of art.

Parisienne by Yves Saint Laurent – In the past efragrance has hesitated to stock Yves Saint Laurent fragrances but Parisienne sees the brand returning to its core values. It’s simple, elegant and has a bit of flair that we haven’t seen from YSL in some time. Parisienne is definitely a future classic.

rose the one by Dolce & Gabbana – Recently we have been receiving a number of enquiries asking “what is the fragrance on the Dolce & Gabbana spray card?” It’s rose the one and we like it too. Dolce & Gabbana have deviated from their glamorous, attention seeker model upon which the one is based and offered up the sweet and sensual rose the one. The change seems to be working.

efragrance is always dedicated to finding the finest new fragrances and stocking them on release so if you are after a new favourite watch this space.

Fragrance Profile Update

Date added: 26/10/09

Recently the efragrance office has been tinkering with our ‘product pages’. Over the last few years we’ve been very happy with our layout but it was time to add a few new features we’ve been discussing for some time. In addition to the previously found images, product description and extra information in the left panel our new features include:

Gift with Purchase Imagery: You may have browsed our site a number of times and found descriptions of GWPs. That’s nice and all but what do they look like? You need probe no further as efragrance has added imagery of GWPs on each product page where available.

Fragrance Recommendations: We are often asked for fragrance recommendations by phone or e-mail. Now all of that information is available at the bottom of each product page. Each recommendation comes from our own data compiled from thousands of purchases.

Gift Set Contents: You can view detailed descriptions of gift set contents by navigating through our gift set page (found by clicking on the ‘gift set’ tab at the top of the page) but now all of that information is available on our product pages as well. Simply click on the image of the gift set and a dialogue box will appear with an enlarged image and the gift set contents details.

Fragrance House Link: Our last tweek is very subtle. Previously the top of the product page has always contained the title of the respective fragrance. Now that title also lists the fragrance house. For example: what was once “Vera Wang Princess” is now “Vera Wang Princess by Vera Wang.” If you click on the fragrance house text you will be automatically taken to a list of every in-stock fragrance by that designer.

We hope you find each change useful and, as always, welcome any feedback.

Top Five 80s Fragrances Still Relevant Today

Date added: 30/09/09

The years 2007 and 2008 were all about reviving 80s fashion. Love it or hate it the neon decade was responsible for some major changes not least of all in the fragrance world. In order to pluck on your nostalgic heart strings, efragrance has compiled a list of the Top Five 80s Fragrances Still Relevant Today.

Giorgio – It’s safe to say it all started with Giorgio by Giorgio Beverly Hills. For the first time a fragrance launch alone was causing queues outside department stores. Fragrance was now a mass market item and store owners could no longer ignore their ‘customer pulling power’.

Poison – Yves Saint Laurent was responsible for “stinker” becoming a term of endearment amongst fragrance lovers. Poison certainly epitomises the phrase “they don’t make ‘em like they used to” and we never run out of requests for this block buster.

Eternity for Men – Calvin Klein put men’s fragrances on the map with Eternity for Men. It’s hard to find a man born before 1991 who hasn’t worn Eternity at some point in their life. It’s no wonder that quite a few of our male customers purchase up to five bottles at a time.

Cool Water – Cool Water is the oldest of the men’s fragrances in this list having been launched in 1988, a year earlier than Eternity for Men. Yet every year without fail it maintains its position towards the top of the best seller list. While this classic remains untouchable it will be interesting to watch how successful its successor, Hot Water, turns out to be.

Coco – While Chanel No.5 remains the most sought after Chanel fragrance the classical, soft oriental scent of Coco cannot be overlooked. This update captures the elegance of a by-gone era with a provocative twist that will never be outdated.

It's what you know - Part 1

Date added: 23/09/09

The idea for this post came from a number of calls and e-mails we received from customers who thought they had accidentally broken their bottle of Lolita Lempicka.

This trend occurred because of a unique design. The fragrance bottle had no lid and the spray nozzle was so tiny and oddly shaped it looked more like a lid than a nozzle. Our customers were prying off the lid of their Lolita Lempicka bottles only to find a thin plastic tube looking back at them.

Even I admit to making this mistake but I benefitted from knowledgeable colleagues who explained how the bottle actually worked.

Therefore in the interest of spreading knowledge from experts and suppliers I present to you the first instalment of “It’s what you know.”

The first tip concerns one of our latest fragrances, BLV II. In order to create a bit of ground swell Bvlgari have adorned the lid of BLV II with a genuine silver coating. If, by any chance, your bottle arrives tarnished all you need to do is give it a loving polish with a trusted jewellery or silver polish. I’ve even heard that toothpaste does a good job.

Our next tip is for fans of Issey Miyake. A scent is a beautiful fragrance but if you are keen to smell it first in a department store make sure you spray it onto your skin. Don’t accept any spray cards. a scent is a fragrance that changes quite a bit over time and a spray card will not do the fragrance justice at all.

Further down the track Dolce & Gabbana will be releasing a themed set of fragrances called the D&G Collection. Each fragrance has both a number and a name in French. Why have both? Well, each number and name corresponds to a Tarot Card that best describes the fragrance. Great concept don’t you think?

If you would like to contribute a tip or interesting fact to “It’s what you know” please send efragrance an e-mail or contact us on twitter.

The rise of the casual fragrance

Date added: 14/09/09

Those of you who enjoy reading their news online, I’ll draw your attention to a recent article in The Punch regarding levels of snobbery in certain suburbs around the nation.  Whether you believe the author’s criticisms are justified or not snobbery is all too often associated with fragrance.

There are certain labels that require are an air of prestige to maintain their brand image but when all is said and done everyone should feel free to buy the fragrance they like. After all the beauty of fragrance is that it allows you a slice of designer glamour without the price tag.

Gucci has been one of the most successful fragrance houses recently due to the Gucci by Gucci range. Each gorgeous fragrance feels as though no expense has been spared in its production and packaging.

Though interestingly this year two big success stories have come from fragrances with a very different feel to them. Both Boss Orange and ck Free for Men are marketed as more casual fragrances. On the Boss Orange advertisement Sienna Miller struts her stuff in jeans looking very natural and relaxed.  In the meantime ck Free announces it has ‘nothing to prove’ while a casually dressed gentlemen stairs down the barrel of the camera.

Fashion trends are hard to keep up with but tastes rarely change, which is why prestige fragrances will always be successful.  This year though are we seeing the rise and rise of the casual fragrance?

Spring comes early

Date added: 7/09/09

Ordinarily the trusty efragrance air conditioner isn’t turned on until November but 2009 has been anything but an ordinary year. As legitimate plans to visit the beach become common place in August the mid winter release of European Summer fragrances seems a little less frustrating.

All too often we have been supplied with vibrant citrus scents whilst Sydney remains wet and gloomy. It’s hard to criticise designers Issey Miyake and Jean Paul Gaultier after they created two true classics in L’eau d’Issey and Classique but let’s face it thick woollen scarves and trench coats don’t put you in the mood for Issey Summer.

Someone up stairs had Australian fragrance lovers in mind when this year's summer release were (eventually) met with appropriate weather. As a sign of the times our limited edition summer fragrances have been extremely popular.

Issey Miyake greeted the sunny months with crisp water fragrances for him and her that rivalled the perfect blend of notes in the original. Jean Paul Gaultier continued to have a whole lot of fun with his limited editions, this year channelling Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.

Don’t hesitate any longer. Head out side and enjoy the sun with a divine summer fragrance. We’ll see you at the beach.
